MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – WKU Women's Tennis closed out the MTSU Invitational at the Adams Tennis Complex strong on Sunday. The Lady Toppers went a perfect 11-0 on the final day of the three-day event.
"We wanted to finish strong and to leave going 8-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles was a great achievement," WKU Women's Tennis Head Coach Greg Davis said. "We wanted to have some momentum going into Friday's tournament at Samford and we were able to perform at a high level today."
In singles competition against Eastern Kentucky, Paola Cortez won her match against Maria Fedenko 6-2, 6-2, Rachel Hermanova defeated Marilou Cote 6-2, 6-3, Sayda Hernandez topped Emmy Poleuoi 6-4, 6-1, Anna-Marie Kopecka won her match against Ezem Olcer 6-1, 6-3, Sofia Blanco defeated Jacey Wilson 6-1, 6-0, Mariana Zegada topped Maria Triska 6-0, 6-0, and Samantha Martinez defeated Madison Hill 6-2, 6-1. Sunskrithi Damera won her match against an unattached player 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles matches Sunday, Cortez and Kopecka defeated MTSU's Lena Peyer and Eloise Swarbrick 7-6 (6), Blanco and Martinez defeated MTSU's Hrudaya Shah and Lilly-Sophie Schmidt 6-4, and Hernandez and Zegada defeated TSU's Natalie Walsh and Taylor Ellis 6-0.
WKU finished the three-day event with a 25-6 record in singles matches and a 13-1 mark in doubles matches.
The Lady Toppers are scheduled to head to Birmingham, Alabama, next weekend for the Samford Invitational from Oct. 13-15.
