BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis freshman Virginia Madueño was named All-Conference USA Singles Second Team and also represented the Lady Toppers on the CUSA All-Freshman Team, the league announced Tuesday.
"Really happy for Virginia on receiving the special honor," WKU Women's Tennis Head Coach Greg Davis said. "She's really shown by example that if you compete every match and you are coachable that you can improve over a very short period of time."
The recognition comes after Madueño had one of the best freshman seasons in the history of WKU Women's Tennis.
Madueño posted a 16-5 record in singles and added 11 wins in doubles matches throughout the spring. In singles, Madueño moved up WKU's lineup to as high as No. 2, but played matches at the No. 3, 4 and 5 positions primarily, finishing the season at No. 3. She went 6-2 at No. 3, 6-0 at No. 4 and 4-1 at No. 5 – including a win over a Power Conference opponent at Louisville in just the third match of her college career. Madueño's 16 singles wins this spring are tied for fifth-most in a single season in program history and are second-most by a freshman in a season in program history.
In doubles, Madueño picked up four wins at No. 1, five wins at No. 2 and a pair of wins at No. 3.
Madueño was named the CUSA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on April 8, and was also part of the CUSA Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 4.
Madueño helped the Lady Toppers reach at least 10 wins as a team for the fifth straight season, marking the second time in program history that has happened.
It marks the third consecutive season WKU has had a player named All-CUSA. Sofia Blanco was named All-CUSA Singles Second Team in both 2024 and 2025, and Rachel Hermanova also received All-CUSA Singles Second Team recognition in 2025. It's the first time WKU has had players receive postseason all-conference honors in at least three consecutive seasons since doing so in four straight seasons from 2015-18.
