BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — In the regular season finale, the WKU women's basketball team will take on Louisiana Tech in E.A. Diddle Arena on Saturday for Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for only $1 by using the promotion code 'WKU7'.
The Lady Toppers come into the game on a 14-game winning streak at home with a perfect 12-0 record in Diddle Arena this season. Overall, WKU is 21-7 on the season and 13-4 in Conference USA. The Lady Toppers sit in sole possession of third place in the league standings. WKU clinched the third seed in the Conference USA Championship with its win on Thursday night. The Lady Toppers also hold a 32 ranking in the latest RPI rankings with a 7-5 record against teams in the top 100.
Louisiana Tech is 14-14 on the season and 6-11 in conference. The Lady Techsters are tied for 10th place in the standings.
Saturday's game is Senior Day for four Lady Topper seniors and head manager Wes Schooler. The five seniors will be honored in a ceremony following the conclusion of the game.
WKU is coming off a 71-60 win against Charlotte on Thursday. Raneem Elgedawy led the Lady Toppers with her 16th double-double of the season with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Meral Abdelgawad added 13 points and Alexis Brewer had 12 in the game. Whitney Creech added nine points and dished out a game-high seven assists.
Saturday's meeting will be the 48th between WKU and LA Tech all-time. The Lady Techsters lead the series 26-21, but the Lady Toppers have won eight straight in the series.
The two teams have already played this season. WKU got an 84-75 win in Ruston on Feb. 6. The Lady Toppers took an early 23-11 lead in the game, but the LA Tech outscored WKU 48-35 in the second and third quarters to take a 59-58 lead going into the final quarter. The Lady Toppers rallied to score 26 in the fourth quarter while holding the Lady Techsters to 16.
Creech led WKU with 21 points in the game including 13 in the fourth quarter. Elgedawy and Brewer each had 17 in the contest and Dee Givens and Abdelgawad added 13 points.
LA Tech is led by Amber Dixon who is averaging 12.3 points per game. Keiunna Walker is putting up 10.9 points per contest. Anna Lar Roberson leads the Lady Techsters on the boards, averaging 5.6 rebounds per game.
