IRVING, Texas - The Western Kentucky University women's swimming and diving team placed 22 student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll list while five of those honorees earned the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal, as announced by the league office.
The Commissioner's Academic Medal goes to those student-athletes with a 3.75 GPA or higher. The league recognized a total of 670 student-athletes who reached the requirement. From WKU, Ashley Forsyth, Aubrey Grensing, Mollie McNeel, Erin Moe and Andrea VanderMey all earned the high distinction.
Along with those five swimmers, 17 other Lady Toppers were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. To be named to the list, student-athletes must have reached a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Those recognized from WKU include Nicole Ares, Claire Conlon, Michelle Craddock, Amy Crayne, Aiste Dobrovolskaite, Victoria Frascino, Amy Halligan, Rachel King, Nadine Laemmler, Natalie Lenderman, Susan Marquess, Courtney Marx, Alexandra Mata, Sara Redmond, Madison Rylee, Whitney Spain and Kelsey Turner.
The Lady Toppers joined C-USA as an affiliate for the past season, coming in fourth at the league championship. WKU also had two student-athletes selected by the league's coaches as specialty award winners, as Nadine Laemmler was named the Newcomer of the Year and Amy Crayne was named Freshman Diver of the Year.
WKU will join C-USA in all sports as a full-time member in July 2014.
