The Hilltoppers (33-10 overall, 15-6 CUSA) exploded for six runs in the fourth inning en route to their third win of the weekend over the Miners (11-30 overall, 3-18 CUSA). Â
Â
WKU 8, UTEP 3Â
Three hits and two walks helped WKU jump to an early lead Sunday as Kendle White walked to open the game. Jenna Blanton singled to move White to second and an RBI double from Annie White scored the first run.Â
Lauren Satterly bunted for a single to load the bases and Maci Masters drew a four-pitch walk to push the Hilltoppers lead to 2-0.Â
In the circle, Erica Houge threw a perfect three innings until UTEP scored its only runs of the game with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth.Â
Down 3-2 going into the home half of the fourth, the Tops responded with a six-spot to re-take the lead 8-3.Â
Anna Mauck began the inning reaching on an error, and Kendle White followed up with a bunt single to put runners on first and second.Â
A stray Miner throw allowed Blanton to reach and for both Mauck and Kendle White to score. Â
Morgan Sharpe added to the inning with an RBI double to left center to advance Annie White and score Blanton. Â
The next two runs came from a two-RBI single through the right side from Satterly to score Sharpe and Annie White.Â
The sixth and final run of the fourth was thanks to an RBI single from Katie Murphy. Â
Both Houge and Rylan Smith combined for the last three innings with Houge throwing a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth and Smith taking over in the sixth.Â
Smith closed out the game with a pop up to second base to secure the series sweep.Â

QUOTABLE Â
"A great day and a great crowd. We appreciate everyone coming out and it was fun to have a little team with us," said WKU Softball head coach, Amy Tudor. "I thought we played great defense today and our short game was a game changer for us with Erica and Rylan throwing really well in the circle."Â
"I think the response was absolutely huge," said Tudor. "We've done that before and I'm really proud of the resilience there. It's hard to go down and answer back, but all year long they've done a really good job of that."Â
