I'm sure most people don't know who I am in the WKU community, as I have been at Kentucky Wesleyan College, a DII institution, for the past four years. My name is Christian Tooley and I'm from the Bowling Green Area and I have decided to become a Hilltopper for my last year of eligibility to play golf and pursue my master's degree.
Â
Sadly, thousands of collegiate athletes had their season cut short in early March. No conference tournament, no NCAA tournament, no graduation, nothing. It was so hard for me to grasp that I went from being at workouts at 6 AM that morning to no longer being a collegiate athlete by 6 PM that evening. After I returned home, I let some days pass by and gave my future a lot of thought and prayer. I woke up one day and just told myself that I was a golfer and I wasn't ready to give up competitive golf just yet. Fast forward a few weeks later, and WKU had become a serious option. When I was given the opportunity to come home, get my master's degree, and do what I love, it was a no-brainer. My entire family has gone to WKU. I have even waved the red towel in Diddle Arena, and now to come here and wear the red towel? It's my dream come true.
Â
This summer has been anything but normal for even the average golfer. In tournaments, I can't show up to the practice area more than 45 minutes before my tee time, i have to get my temperature taken when I check in, there's just a lot of new precautions being thrown into just playing a round of golf. There's just a lot that we aren't accustomed to just yet. However, going to tournaments now and prepping for the collegiate season I feel very blessed. This is a second chance for me to play collegiate golf and I know a lot of kids would love to be in the position that I am in.

The support that I have gotten from the Bowling Green community has been nothing short of amazing. Being from here, people love seeing athletes stay local and play at WKU. Bowling Green truly is a college town and WKU is its team. There's a lot of the same collegiate nicknames that are used, but I take pride in knowing that there's only one Hilltopper. We have a roster full of hard working guys who have still been finding ways to work hard throughout this long layoff. Everyone on the team has made me feel at home and I'm very thankful of how welcoming they have been. With that said, we're hungry and ready to bring a conference championship back to BG with us next spring. It's time to get to work. Go Tops!
