BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's basketball team has won five-straight games and will be looking to extend the win streak to six at Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Toppers and the Lady Eagles will square off at 4 p.m. (CST) at Reed Green Coliseum.

WKU is 15-6 on the season and 7-3 in Conference USA, putting them in sole possession of fourth place in the league standings. Middle Tennessee is one spot ahead at 8-3, having played one more game than WKU. Southern Miss is 11-10 on the year and 3-7 in conference play.

The Lady Toppers are coming off an 84-75 win at Louisiana Tech on Thursday night. WKU took an early lead, but the Lady Techsters came storming back in the second quarter. The Lady Toppers hung around and took over in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

Whitney Creech played a major part in the fourth quarter takeover, scoring 13 of her 21 points in the period and opening the quarter scoring nine straight to give WKU the lead. Her 21 points were the most for the senior point guard since scoring 26 at Samford earlier this season.

Raneem Elgedawy and Meral Abdelgawad recorded double-doubles in the game. Elgedawy had 17 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth-straight double-double. Abdelgawad finshed with 13 points and 15 rebounds for her first career double-double. Alexis Brewer found her groove from distance, making 5-of-6 shots from 3-point range.

Saturday will be the 10th meeting between WKU and Southern Miss all-time. The Lady Toppers hold a 5-4 advantage in the series, but Southern Miss has won two straight against WKU. The series has had four games determined by 3 points or less and the average margin of victory in the series is 9.5 points.

Both teams like to turn teams over and pressure opponents on defense. WKU leads C-USA in steals, averaging 10.1 per game while Southern Miss is second in the league averaging 10.0 per game.

Southern Miss is led in scoring by Shonte Hailes who is averaging 16.8 points per game. Hailes has missed the last two games for the Lady Eagles. Respect Leaphart is the team's second leading scorer, averaging 14.0 points.
