BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's basketball team will continue its homestand against UTSA on Saturday at E.A. Diddle Arena. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. Fans can receive free admission to the game with the donation of two canned goods that will help restock the WKU Food Pantry.
The Lady Toppers are 17-6 on the season and 9-3 in Conference USA play. UTSA is 6-17 on the year and have a league record of 2-10. WKU is in third place in league standings, behind Old Dominion (11-1) and Rice (11-1) and have a No. 30 RPI ranking.
WKU has won seven-consecutive games for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The Lady Toppers have also won 11-straight at home, tied for the 15th longest home winning streak in the country. WKU is 9-0 in Diddle Arena this season and is one of only 15 teams left in the nation that hasn't lost a home game.
In their last outing, the Lady Toppers defeated UTEP 78-65 on Thursday night in Diddle Arena. WKU jumped out to a large lead, but the Miners attempted to make a comeback in the second half. The Lady Toppers held them off, outscoring UTEP 12-4 in the two minutes of the game.
For the first time this season, four Lady Toppers scored 15-plus points in the game. Meral Abdelgawad and Alexis Brewer scored 17 points each and Dee Givens and Raneem Elgedawy put up 16 apiece.
Elgedawy picked up her 12th double-double of the season, a category she leads C-USA in and is 15th in the nation. Givens filled out the stat sheet against the Miners, recording six assists, six steals and five rebounds.
Saturday's game will be the seventh meeting between WKU and UTSA. The Lady Toppers lead the series 4-2 and have won three-straight against the Roadrunners. WKU has a 2-0 record against UTSA in Bowling Green.
UTSA has three players averaging double-digit points on the season. Mikayla Woods is putting up 15.0 points per game, Adryana Quezada is averaging 13.0 per game and Karrington Donald is scoring 10.6 per game.
