Easton Video Interview | Landrum Video Interview
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Coming off a strong start to spring play, WKU Hilltopper Golf returns to action this weekend at Florida State's 42nd Seminole Intercollegiate.
Â
WKU will be one of 14 teams – including five ranked in the Golfstat top 100 – competing Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
Â
Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday, beginning with a 7 a.m. CT shotgun start, followed by Sunday's final round with tee times at 7 a.m.
Â
The Hilltoppers are already familiar with the host, Florida State. The Seminoles took the team title earlier this month at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, where WKU finished third out of 16 teams.
Â
The Hilltoppers shot 6 under as a team in that event with an 858 team total, their lowest since fall 2016. That performance was highlighted by a second-round, 9-under 279 – the team's best single-round score since October 2013 and its lowest score to par in head coach Phillip Hatchett's tenure, which began in 2010.
Â
"That's what we practice for," WKU junior Stuart Easton said of the stiff competition. "We want to be in the best tournaments and play against the best players. There's no one that we fear, that's for sure. We're not going to put too much pressure on it. We're going to take each tournament as it comes, keep doing what we're doing and do it well."
Â
Easton will be joined on the trip by redshirt junior Billy Tom Sargent, junior Blake Smith, redshirt sophomore Linus Lo and freshman Chase Landrum.
Â
Sargent shot a career-low 206 at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, finishing in third place and just one stroke behind Florida State's Harry Ellis (the defending British Amateur champion) and Jamie Li.
Â
Sargent also led WKU last year with a 22nd-place finish individually at the Seminole Intercollegiate. The Hilltoppers were ninth as a team.
Â
The freshman Landrum hopes to bring some momentum into the week after a solid showing at the USA Individual Tournament, which took place simultaneously to the team event in Mobile. Landrum tied for 11th with a three-round total of 218, topping his previous best for 54 holes by nine strokes.
Â
"It gave me a lot of confidence to get going like I did," Landrum said. "I hit the ball really well all week. I kept it in front of me, which is what I have not been doing. In the last round, the putter got a little cold on me, but other than that, I was happy with how I ended up finishing in that tournament."
