MURRAY, Ky. - On Tuesday, the WKU Hilltopper tennis squad fell 5-2 to in-state foe Murray State in Murray, Ky.
WKU jumped out to a lead in doubles play when freshman Andrew Hill and junior Andrew Fish won the No. 2 match 8-4. The duo of senior Josh Smith and sophomore Alex Taranda saw their four-match winning streak come to an end, dropping the top doubles match 8-7. Sophomore Alex Stewart and senior J.T.Closi clinched the doubles point for the Hilltoppers with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, however, the tide turned in favor of the Racers. Stewart claimed the only singles win for WKU, a straight-set victory at the No. 6 position, and Murray State took the match 5-2. The loss drops the Hilltoppers to 3-7 on the year.
The Lady Toppers and Hilltoppers both are slated to meet Tennessee State in Nashville on Friday. The Hilltoppers are 23-0 all-time against the Tigers. The Lady Toppers won last year's meeting 7-0 in Nashville.
