HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Both WKU tennis squads completed 7-0 sweeps over Alabama A&M on Saturday in Huntsville, Ala. The wins improve the Lady Toppers to 5-6 and the Hilltoppers to 3-6 on the year.
The Hilltoppers' doubles duo of senior Josh Smith and sophomore Alex Taranda won their fourth No. 1 match in a row, taking down their Alabama A&M opponents 8-1. Smith, Taranda, senior J.T. Closi, and junior Andrew Fish all completed straight-set wins over their singles opponents. Freshman Tucker Fenske won his debut match by default.
The Lady Toppers got back on track on Saturday as well. Senior Monta Reinfelde and junior Madeline Phillips defeated the Bulldogs' top doubles pair 8-1. Reinfelde, junior Carolina Barboza, and sophomore Gabby Crofford shut out their singles opponents in straight set fashion.
Next for the Hilltoppers is Murray State in Murray, Ky., on Tuesday at 3 p.m. (CST). The Lady Toppers return to the courts on April 4 in Nashville at Tennessee State.
