BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Lady Topper tennis team won 4-3 Monday over North Alabama in Florence, Ala., after falling 5-2 to IPFW in Bowling Green on Sunday. The Hilltoppers fell to IPFW 7-0 and UNA 4-3.
Both teams hosted their first home matches of the year on Sunday. The Lady Toppers took on the Mastodons at Bowling Green High School with senior Carolina Barboza and junior Madeline Phillips pulling out wins in singles play. Hilltopper duo Josh Smith and Alex Taranda won the first doubles match between WKU and IPFW at Kereiakes Park, but the Hilltoppers would eventually fall 7-0.
On Monday, the two teams went to Florence, Ala., to play the North Alabama Lions. WKU and North Alabama played tight matches, with the Lady Toppers winning 4-3 and the Hilltoppers losing 4-3. The Lady Toppers split the singles points and won the doubles point to clinch the match. Senior Monta Reinfelde won at the No. 1 singles position for the fifth time this season. Senior Alex Crofford and junior Gabby Crofford won both their singles and doubles matches on Monday. The Hilltoppers won all three doubles matches, but only took two points from singles play in their loss to the Lions. Smith won his No. 2 singles match in straight sets to improve to 5-2 on the year.
Both teams return to the courts on Thursday, hosting Northern Kentucky at Kereiakes Park at 1 p.m. (CT).
