BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Lady Toppers (3-2) split their weekend matches, beating Bellarmine 6-1 on Saturday following the close 4-3 loss to Austin Peay on Friday. The Hilltoppers (2-2) dropped their Friday match to Austin Peay by a score of 6-1.
On Friday, the Lady Toppers lost the top three singles matches as well as the doubles point, sealing their second defeat of the year. The loss at the No. 1 singles position was the first of the season for senior Monta Reinfelde, who had won her first three matches at the top spot.
Reinfelde bounced back on Saturday to improve to 4-1 with her straight set win over Bellarmine's Michelle McFerran. Reinfelde now sits at 45-9 in her career at the top singles spot. Senior Alex Crofford continued her strong start as well, winning both of her singles games this weekend to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Senior Josh Smith is off to a 4-0 start in singles play, despite the Hilltoppers losing to Austin Peay 6-1 on Friday. Smith took the lone victory in the match, taking down Austin Peay's No. 3 man, Iago Seffrin. All four of Smith's wins have come in the No. 3 slot.
Up next for the Lady Toppers is a meeting with Morehead State (2-5) on Friday and Murray State (4-3) on Sunday. The Hilltoppers will face Morehead State (3-2) on Saturday before joining the Lady Toppers at Murray State (1-3) on Sunday.
