BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Both WKU tennis teams were defeated at Morehead State this weekend with the Lady Toppers (3-3) losing 4-3 and the Hilltoppers (2-3) falling 6-1. The teams were scheduled to play Murray State on Sunday, but those matches were postponed due to weather. A makeup date has not been announced.
On Friday, the Lady Toppers dropped the first two singles points to Morehead State before rallying to split the six possible points. The Eagles then took the first two doubles decisions to clinch the match. Senior Carolina Barboza, junior Emily Przystawski, and sophomore Gabby Crofford claimed the three points for WKU. Przystawski has won three-straight singles matches to improve to 4-2 on the year.
Saturday, junior J.T. Closi won the first match of the game at the No. 1 singles spot. The win would turn out to be the only point for the Hilltoppers on the day. Senior Josh Smith lost for the first time this season in singles play. Smith won his first four matches of the year for the Hilltoppers.
Up next for WKU is Alabama A&M. Both the Lady Toppers and Hilltoppers are slated for 1 p.m. (CT) start times on Saturday, March 8 in Huntsville, Ala.
