ATLANTA – WKU Track and Field wrapped up competition at the Yellow Jacket Invitational Saturday at Georgia Tech.
On the team's showing in the meet, associate head coach Anthony Acklin said "Outdoor season is off to a good start. We had over 12 personal bests. Looking forward to regrouping and having a great showing at Hilltopper Relays."
The Hilltoppers were led by the standout women's high jump team that claimed three of the five top spots. The squad was highlighted by the return of Katie Isenbarger who claimed a first place finish, clearing 1.76 meters. She was followed up by fellow teammate Emilia Lesniak, who managed 1.71 meters. Grace Turner took fifth to round out the top five.
In the men's high jump, Nick Fornoff took home fourth, clearing 1.91 meters.
The men's discus saw three Hilltoppers manage top 10 finishes with Luke Stegman leading the way, claiming fourth, and tossing a personal best 50.10 meters. Stegman earned two more top 10 finishes including a sixth place finish in the hammer throw and eighth in the shot put. Kaison Barton led the Tops in the hammer throw, tossing 56.42 meters, taking fifth.
Netanya Linares threw a personal best in the javelin, going for 35.27 meters.
On the track, Kameron Horton claimed a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles. In the women's 100 meter hurdles, Netanya Linares led the Hilltoppers with a fifth place finish. In the women's 400 hurdles, newcomer Gianna Huerta led the Red and White, taking home a sixth place finish.
In the 200 meter dash, WKU claimed the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots led by Julian Klenner who finished in 21.69.
Wade Balcom led WKU in the mid-distance ranks, claiming 11th out of 32 competitors in the 800. His time of 1:54 is a PR for the Sophomore. Trevor Hudnall also set a new PR in the race.
In the final event of the day, the women's hammer throw, three competed for WKU led by Ajla Basic who claimed third, throwing 57.44 meters. Aitana Safont Falomir followed behind, taking fourth.
