BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Track and Field has wrapped up a successful first day of the Hilltopper Relays at the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex.
On the first day of competition, Head Coach Brent Chumbley said "There were a lot of PR's. Really good day for us, several good performances so we're excited about that. People should come out and see us tomorrow because there are some really exciting things happening with track and field."
Nick Fornoff highlighted the day setting a new PR in the high jump clearing 1.98 meters to claim first place. Katie Isenbarger took first place in the women's event matching the program record (1.82) and Grace Turner followed behind with a career day, clearing 1.76 meters.
Multiple other Hilltoppers set new PR's throughout the afternoon's events. Ajla Basic took home first in the hammer throw setting her PRÂ at 60.35 meters. Her throw ranks fourth all-time in the record books. Kaison Barton continued the good fortunes in the ring, taking first and tossing a new personal best in the men's event. His throw of 58.16 meters ranks third all-time in program history.
According to the TFRRS NCAA DI East Region Rankings, Isenbarger ranks third in the high jump after clearing 1.81 meters, Turner ranks ninth after setting a PR of 1.76 meters. Basic is now 13th in the women's hammer throw after the day's events.
On the track, Kameron Horton recorded a new PR in the 200 meter dash, claiming first place. In the final race of the day, the 5000 meter, Michael House and Sam Brophy both set new personal bests.
Saturday, the events get underway at 9 a.m. with the women's discus with the men following. On the track, the day will start at noon with the 4x100 meter relay. The final field event of the day, the women's javelin is scheduled for noon. The relays will commence with the 4x400 meter relays scheduled to start at 5:10 p.m.
