Both teams were knotted, 0-0, at halftime, but Kennesaw State (2-6-4, 1-0-3 CUSA) struck first in the 67th minute. WKU (3-6-2, 1-1-2 CUSA) equalized with a goal in the 87th minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were scoreless heading into the second half. Kennesaw State was the first to break through with a goal from inside the 18-yard box.
The Hilltoppers pressed late, searching for an equalizer. Georgia Liapis fired a shot that the Kennesaw State keeper had to stretch to get a hand on it. She swatted the ball back out into play where Lily Rummo was able to find it and get the ball past the keeper on the second attempt for WKU.
NOTABLES
- Lily Rummo's goal was the second goal in the last two games for the graduate student. It was the seventh of her career.
- The Hilltoppers outshot the Owls, 13-7, and outshot them in both halves (6-4, first half; 7-3, second half).
- Brooke Sleeva, Alyvia Walls and Rylee Finol each had two shots in the match.
- With the point in league play, WKU's 1-1-2 (5 points) CUSA record is fifth in the conference. Kennesaw State moved into a 3-way tie for second place with six points (1-0-3).
QUOTABLE
"Really, really proud of Lily (Rummo), that's two for her in the last two games," said head coach Jason Neidell. "It's good to see her come alive. She's a great player. We showed some determination in coming from behind. That's something that is certainly tough in the game of soccer because it's hard to score goals. It was a team effort to come from behind. We just need to be a little bit grittier in the final part of the field, which is the danger area, to get after it, create some chaos and score some more goals in that part of the field."
