NASHVILLE, Tenn. – WKU Track & Field wrapped up day two of the Commodore Challenge at Vanderbilt University Saturday afternoon.
The newcomers continued to impress on day two for the Red and White. Kameron Horton made his mark in the hurdles, finishing up in fourth in the 60 meter finals, going for a best 8.18 time. For the vaulters, freshmen Sophia Roskoski and Jessica Phillipp both managed top-15 finishes.
"Had some great performances across the board. Roskoski finished 8th in the women's pole vault with a personal best of 3.62 meters. Luke Stegman threw a personal best of 14.97 meters in the shot put to make the final," said Associate Head Coach Anthony Acklin.
"Good starting point to the season and we're looking forward to seeing everyone progress and put the pieces together over the next few weeks", Acklin added.
Netanya Linares finished 14th overall in the 60 meter hurdles and finished third in her heat. Rolle continued from his strong 2023 season, finishing fourth in the 60 meter prelims, winning his heat with a time of 6.86 propelling him to the finals. In the finals, he shaved .06 seconds off his time, finishing up in fifth.
Wade Balcom led the way for the Distance Tops. He notched a second place finish in his heat, good for 27th overall in the mile. In his first track meet of his collegiate career, Jared Sandfoss managed a 17th place finish in the 3000 meter race (8:57).
In the final race of the day, the 4x400 meter relay, the men's squad managed a fifth place finish to cap off the day's events.Â
The Hilltoppers will head back to the Commonwealth with a trip to Louisville for the Bellarmine Classic. The meet is set for Friday, Jan. 19.
