LOUISVILLE, Ky. – WKU Track & Field concluded action at the Bellarmine Open Friday at the Norton Sports & Learning Center. The Hilltoppers competed against the likes of Louisville, UTSA, Xavier, and host Bellarmine.
"The team had some good performances today. It's always good to get some wins. Emilia Lesniak had a nice PR to win the high jump. Ajla Basic (WT) and Kameron Horton (60H) also won," said Head Coach Brent Chumbley.
Three Hilltoppers took first place in their respective events. In total 27 athletes representing WKU finished in the top 10.
Right out of the gates, Horton took home first in the 60 meter hurdles finishing in 8.40.
Lesniak took first place in the high jump, setting a new meet record (1.75m). It's also tied for 41st in the country (2024 NCAA Indoor) and is currently the best in CUSA. Katie Isenbarger made her first appearance for the Tops notching a third place finish (1.70m).
Basic continued the trend for the Red and White winning the weight throw with a 18.70 meter throw.
New additions to the squad, Brunel Denisor and Dreeanna Wade performed well in their debut for WKU. Denisor finished fifth in the men's 400 and Dreeanna took fourth in the women's 60.
Grace Turner led the vaulters with a fifth place finish, clearing 3.67 meters. Freshman Sophia Roskoski marked another top-10 finish, claiming seventh (3.52).
Wade Balcom cracked the top-10 in the men's 800, finishing in 1:56, good for sixth place. Addie Frisch led the women in the 800, placing 10th (2:24).
In the final race of the day, the 4x400 meter relay, the men's squad managed a third place finish to cap off a successful meet.
The Hilltoppers will head back to Louisville next weekend for the Lenny Lyles Invitational. The meet is slated to run Friday and Saturday, Jan 26-27.
