UPCOMING SCHEDULE
- Wednesday, April 7 – 6 p.m. CT vs. Eastern Kentucky | Bowling Green, Ky
- WKU Softball has faced off against conference rival Marshall 20 times in program history. The Thundering Herd lead the all-time series 11-9 and claimed the most recent meeting between the sides (2019 in Huntington) in an 8-7 win in extra innings, to win the series.
- Entering Wednesday's game, Marshall owns a record of 11-4 while winning five of their last six games played.
- Marshall was voted to finish second in the C-USA East behind WKU in the coach's preseason polls. Marshall had five preseason all-conference players including C-USA preseason player of the year, Aly Harrell.
- The Hilltoppers enter their first C-USA series of the season with a 15-4 overall record. The Tops have unfortunately had nine games canceled or postponed due to COVID-19 contact tracing by an opponent or inclement weather.
- WKU is coming into the series on a five-game win-streak including a win over No. 7 ranked Kentucky last week.
- The walk off win over Kentucky was the Hilltoppers' first win over a ranked team this season. This was also WKU's first win over a top-10 ranked opponent since 2014, when the Tops beat Tennessee.
- This season, Kelsey Aikey added both her 500th career strikeout and 17th career save. She is just the fourth Hilltopper to reach the 500-strikeout milestone and now sits 54 strikeouts away from owning the record. She has owned the program's save record since her junior season and ranks second among all active NCAA Division I pitchers with 17 saves.
- In early February, redshirt-junior catcher Kendall Smith was named 1-of-30 Senior CLASS Award Candidates. She joins fellow Hilltopper Aikey as two of the three selections in program history.
- WKU Softball was predicted to win the Conference USA East Division by league coaches, receiving eight first place votes. Individually, pitcher Aikey and Shelby Nunn, along with Smith were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
