BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's basketball team will go to Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the final road game of the regular season at Middle Tennessee on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Murphy Center.
The Lady Toppers are 20-6 on the season and 12-3 in Conference while Middle Tennessee is 18-9 and 10-5 in conference play. WKU is in third place in the league standings, one game back from first place. The Lady Raiders are in fourth place overall.
WKU has won 10-straight games, its first double digit winning streak since the 2016-17 season. The Lady Toppers' 10-game winning streak is currently the 12th longest by any NCAA Division I team.
Last week, the Lady Toppers extended another streak by earning their 20th win of the season making eight-consecutive season with 20-or-more wins. That mark is a new program record, topping the seven-season streak WKU put together from 1982-83 to 1988-89 under Paul Sanderford. WKU is one of just 13 teams so far this season to extend its streak to eight seasons or more.
WKU is leading C-USA in scoring, notching a 73.2 points per game clip. The Lady Toppers also lead the league in steals with 271 this season. Dee Givens leads the conference in steals with 64 on the year. Whitney Creech is third with 56. Creech leads C-USA with a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio and has the third most assists with 117. Raneem Elgedawy leads the league in double-doubles with 14 this season.
Elgedawy, Givens and Creech also lead the Lady Toppers in scoring this season. Elgedawy is putting up 17.3 points per game, Givens is averaging 16.3 and Creech is scoring 14.0 points per game. Elgedawy leads on the boards with 10.6 rebounds per game.
In its last outing, WKU toppled Florida Atlantic 69-56 in Boca Raton, Florida. Elgedawy led the Lady Toppers in that game with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Givens had 12 points and six steals and Creech added 10 points and three assists.
Saturday's game will be the 76th meeting between WKU and Middle Tennessee all-time. The Lady Raiders lead the series 42-33, but the Lady Toppers have won seven of the last nine in the series.
Middle Tennessee is led by sisters Anastasia and Aislynn Hayes. Anastasia is C-USA's second leading scorer, averaging 17.5 points per game. Aislynn is putting up 13.0 points per game. Taylor Sutton is scoring 13.3 points per game and Charity Savage rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.3 points per game. Savage is averaging a double-double, pulling down 10.9 rebounds per game.
