BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU (2-3) women's tennis team will continue the spring season on Saturday at Kenlake State Park against Murray State (2-1) at 1:00 p.m. in Murray, Ky.
The Lady Toppers are coming off of a split weekend with a win against Eastern Kentucky and a loss against Ball State. Elpida Malamou, Cynthia Melita Setyawan and Violetta Shatalova each picked up singles win on the weekend. Malamou is currently on a three-match winning streak, while Melita Setyawan is a perfect 2-0 on the season.
The doubles point has been crucial to WKU this season, the Lady Toppers are 2-0 when winning the doubles battle. Head coach Jonatan Berhane has used 10 different combination of players in the doubles portion. Only teams of Andreanna Christopoulou and Malamou and Tereza Hejlova and Malamou have played multiple matches together.
Murray is 2-1 on the season with wins against Evansville and Olivet Nazarene and a sole loss to Louisville. The Racers were picked second in the Ohio Valley Conference and winning back-to-back conference titles. Last season, Murray advanced to the NCAA Tournament to face eventual champions Vanderbilt.
The last time the two teams met was last season in Murray. The Lady Toppers lost that match 2-5, with WKU winning the doubles point and Hejlova picking up a win at the No. 2 spot.
