GREENVILLE, N.C. -- A strong Tuesday of golf allowed the Lady Toppers to move up three spots from yesterday's 11th place showing to finish in a tie for eighth place at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted at the Brook Valley Country Club by East Carolina.
WKU fired a 30-over 318 on the day to finish the even at 82-over 946 (316-312-318), just 12 shots out of the top five and in a tie with Georgia Southern.
"The pin and hole locations were a bit tougher today, but I thought we read our greens better and moved around the course a little easier than the previous two rounds," said head coach Adam Gary. "This is a younger group, so it was a positive experience for them to get out and play on a course of this level."
Senior Ellinor Haag led the Lady Tops with a 13-over 229 (76-75-78) to finish in 16th place while sophomore Georgina Blackman tied for 31st place as she carded a 19-over 235 (76-80-79). Sophomore transfer Katie Story finished four strokes behind Blackman as she tallied a 23-over 239 (82-77-80), and senior Michaela Bordeianu finished in 54th place with a 28-over 244 (82-80-82).
Sophomore Emily Alexander closed out the team card with a 33-over 249 (82-86-81) and finished in a tied for 64th place. Haag finished the event with the fourth-most pars (37) of all players while Blackman's seven birdies were fifth-most among the field. Haag and Blackman were also two of the event's best on par-five holes, averaging 4.83 and 4.92 strokes per hole, respectively.
Host East Carolina took home the overall team title, shooting a 27-over 891 (297-298-296), while William & Mary's Alessandra Liu went wire-to-wire and took home the individual medalist honor with a one-over 217 (72-70-75).
