BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Goals from Addie Englehart in the first half and Tori Doss in the second half powered Xavier to a 2-0 win over WKU Friday at the WKU Soccer Complex in the first of two Lady Topper exhibition matches before regular season play begins Aug. 21.
WKU was able to get off seven shots, two each from Iris Dunn and Hannah Chua. In the second half, a ball was placed inside the box with several Lady Toppers around, but Rachel Piccus was able to dive on the ball for the save. WKU was able to get close, but Xavier's goalkeepers, Piccus and Libby Grace, had two saves each.
On the other side of the field, Allison Leone recorded six saves while playing the entire 90 minutes of the game. In the 33rd minute Addie Englehart was able to place the ball in the upper right corner of the goal out of Leone's reach. After a blocked shot, Tori Doss punched the ball into the net at the 67th minute to bring the final score of 2-0.
The Lady Toppers move on to take on NKU on Sunday in Highland Heights, Ky. The Norse are coming off of a 1-0 win against Louisville on Wednesday in their first exhibition game. They finished the 2014 season with a 9-8-3 record.
Sunday's game at NKU will be broadcasted nationally by ESPN3 at 3:00 PM (CT).
