CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Junior women's golfer Ellinor Haag recorded her sixth top-10 finish of the season and the WKU women's golf team recorded their seventh top-three finish as WKU finished in third at the Chattanooga Classic on Tuesday.
Individually, Haag finished in eighth place with a seven-over 223 (73-75-75) and contributed to WKU's 51-over 915 (302-311-302) team score. Haag hit par of 37 of 54 holes, the fourth-best mark in the field as well as five birdies.
It is also a continuation of the record season the WKU women are having. Prior to this season, no team in WKU women's golf history has finished inside the top three more than four times in a season.
"It was a wet event at times so that made the course difficult to play, but we were wire-to-wire third place so I was happy to see some consistency on the course," said first-year head coach Adam Gary. "Obviously we always want to compete for that top spot, but I was happy to get this result and it's a positive to finish another league team heading into the conference tournament."
Freshman Georgina Blackman tied for 12th place, her team-high ninth top-20 finish on the season, with an 11-over 227 (72-80-75) while senior April Butler finished tied for 17th with a 14-over 230 (78-78-74). Junior Michaela Bordeianu (79-83-78) and freshman Emily Alexander (79-78-83) both tied for 36th place with a 24-over 240.
Vanderbilt's Morgan Ransom, playing as an individual, won the event as the only golfer to shoot under par, as she tallied a two-under 214 (71-72-71). Chattanooga won the team trophy with a 23-over 887 (298-296-293). WKU finished above fellow Conference USA member Marshall, outshooting the Thun-dering Herd by 24 strokes and had three golfers finish ahead of the top Marshall finisher (Sarah Helly, 20th).
WKU now prepares for their final event of the regular season, the C-USA Championship in Fort Myers, Fla., set for April 20-22 at the Verandah Club.
