GULF SHORES, Ala. - WKU women's golf shot an opening-round 300 at the 2015 UAB Fall Beach Blast hosted at The Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club on Monday and is in fourth place heading into the final round on Tuesday.
The Lady Toppers' 12-over round has them just six strokes behind team leader McNeese State and just one shot behind Southern Miss and Austin Peay who are tied for second place.
"We are certainly in contention heading into the final round on Tuesday," head coach Adam Gary said. "I thought all five of our players competed well today and have put us in a good position to have a strong round tomorrow."
Sophomore Georgina Blackman and senior Ellinor Haag led the way for WKU's card with matching two-over 74s on the opening day, and freshman Katie Story is just one shot back in a tie for 17th after a first-round 75.
Daniela Galassi is tied for 30th after posting a 77 in the first round on Monday, and Emily Alexander rounded out the quintet in a tie for 43rd with her first-round 80.
McNeese State's Kennedy Bodfield and UAB's Kayla Wilbourn each shot three-under 69s and are tied atop the individual leaderboard.
Tuesday's final round at the UAB Fall Beach Bash will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
