MIAMI, Fla. -- WKU picks up a singles win against Florida Gulf Coast in the first day of the Panther Invite with five of six Lady Toppers winning their matches. WKU dropped all three doubles matches to host school, FIU.
WKU won at all but one spot against FGCU in singles. Tereza Hejlova, Andreanna Christopoulou, Cynthia Melita, Elpida Malamou and Violette Shatalova all defeated their singles opponent. In doubles, WKU fell to FIU at all three spots in close matches. At No. 1 and No. 2 the Lady Toppers were up but lost the lead.
"We played well in doubles but we need to make sure we execute when we are winning and not let the opponent back in the match," commented head coach Jonatan Berhane.
The Lady Toppers will take on FGCU in doubles and Air Force in singles on day two of the tournament.
