NEW ORLEANS - The ninth-seeded Lady Topper tennis team's season ended Thursday morning at the Sun Belt Conference Championship when eighth-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette defeated WKU 4-0. The loss drops the Lady Toppers' record to 7-8 on the year.
No. 1 doubles duo Monta Reinfelde and Madeline Phillips kept things close at the top doubles matchup, but WKU dropped the No. 2 and 3 matches, leaving the top match unfinished. In singles play, ULL was too much for the Lady Toppers, who lost the No. 1, 2, and 5 matches and were ousted from the tournament.
The Hilltoppers will play their opening-round match on Friday at 3 p.m. against Georgia State. The third-seeded Hilltoppers finished the regular season on a three-match win streak and look to ride that momentum into the tournament.
