MURRAY, Ky. - WKU's Lady Topper tennis team fell to No. 47 Tennessee 7-0 on Wednesday at the Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Ky., in what was the first match against a ranked opponent for the Lady Toppers (4-6) since prior to the 2008 season. Both tennis programs will travel to Huntsville, Ala., on Saturday to face Alabama A&M at 1 p.m. (CT).
Senior Alex Crofford won the opening set of her No. 6 singles match against the Lady Volunteers' Ashleey Boles, but would lose the following set and the tiebreaker. The 7-0 shutout is the first for the Lady Toppers since their Feb. 21, 2009 loss to Belmont.
WKU's matches originally scheduled for March 8 against Alabama A&M, will be made up Saturday at 1 p.m. in Huntsville. Both the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers aim to end their losing streaks on Saturday. The Hilltoppers (2-6) defeated the Bulldogs 6-1 a year ago and the Lady Toppers won last year's meeting 5-2.
