BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU's Lady Topper tennis squad brought a win back from a Music City matchup with Belmont on Friday, but the Hilltoppers were unable to grab a victory from Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind., on Sunday.
The Lady Toppers improved to 2-1 on the year with the 5-2 win over the 1-2 Bruins on Friday. Senior Monta Reinfelde, junior Madeline Phillips, and senior Alex Crofford all claimed wins in both their singles and doubles matches. Reinfelde and Phillips edged out Belmont's top pair at the No. 1 doubles position 7-6.
"Belmont has always been a tough opponent and one that we enjoy playing," hall of fame coach Jeff True said. "It's a good way to measure how good our team is."
True led his Hilltoppers to Evansville, Ind., on Sunday evening, but WKU (2-1) was unable to defeat USI (6-0). The Screaming Eagles dropped the doubles point, but rallied to claim four singles points to defeat WKU 4-3. Seniors Josh Smith and Alex Stewart had the best day for the Hilltoppers. First, the duo took the No. 3 doubles match 8-4, and then the pair each won their respective singles matches.
The Lady Toppers and Hilltoppers will go to Clarksville, Tenn. on Friday to battle Austin Peay and the Lady Toppers will turn around and take on Bellarmine on Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
