BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- WKU women's tennis head coach Jonatan Berhane announced the upcoming spring schedule for 2015. The slate includes 15 matches to be played January through April and features matches against Tennessee and Louisville.
"I am excited about our spring schedule and I'm looking forward to the team getting back on the court," head coach Jonatan Berhane commented. "Our schedule is road heavy, but we play several regional teams that provide fans the opportunity to come out and take in a match. We wanted to challenge ourselves as much as possible in preparation for the Conference USA Championship."
The schedule features one home match to be played at the new WKU Tennis facility located at South Campus. WKU also plays two matches in Nashville, two matches in Louisville, and one match in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Lady Toppers will kick off the spring season traveling to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on the ITA No. 34-ranked Volunteers on January 24th. They stay in the state of Tennessee for the next two matches against Belmont and Austin Peay on January 30 and February 7.
WKU will travel to face in-state foes, Murray State and EKU, in the month of February. Murray State is the reigning OVC champion of the 2014 season. Also in February, they will play Evansville and the match will be played in Louisville. The lone home match of the year will be played on February 28th against former Sun Belt opponent, Arkansas State. That match will start at 1:00 pm.
To start off March, the Lady Tops will compete against Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn. WKU then goes on a five-day road trip to Florida on March 8th through the 12th. The first stop is in Boca Raton where they will play home team Florida Atlantic and then the following day will face Long Island. They then head to Miami to take on Boston University and FIU.
The Lady Toppers return to the region to play Lipscomb in Nashville on March 16th. To finish the month of March, WKU will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to take on UT Chattanooga. Then to round out the regular season, the Lady Tops will face the Lady Cardinals of Louisville on April 4th. Louisville was ranked 62nd by in the ITA preseason poll.
The Conference USA Championship tournament will be hosted by Rice University in Houston, Texas on April 15th.
