BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis finished up fall play in Jonesboro, Ark., this weekend in the Arkansas State Invitational. Elpida Malamou highlighted the trip with a 2-1 singles record earning her third place in her flight.
Malamou first defeated Julie Gauguery of Arkansas State by a score of 6-1, 6-4. She advanced to play Andrea Eskauriatza of Murray State. Malamou dropped the match and then faced Ema Turudija of Missouri State. She defeated Turudija 6-1, 6-1 to finish in third place in the first singles flight. Gabby Crofford and Emily Przystawski both recorded a singles win in the tournament. Tereza Hejlova lost her first match and had to withdraw from the singles tournament due to injury.
Malamou and Hejlova teamed up for the doubles side of the tournament and reached a 2-1 record. They defeated their first round opponent, Dozortseva and Beirao of Southern Illinios-Carbondale, 8-6. They dropped their next match but bounced back won the next against Heeps-Eriksen and Pisani of Arkansas State, 8-7. Crofford and Przystawski played in the second doubles flight. They played in three tough matches, but were unable to come up with a victory.
"I think it has been a good fall," said head coach Jonatan Berhane. "The girls have competed very well overall in the tournaments. I know the seniors are excited for the spring season while the new girls are anxious to play their first college team match."
The Lady Toppers finish the fall season with a 25-24 record in singles and a 12-12 doubles record. Emilia Granstrom led the team with a 7-4 singles record. Andreanna Christopoulou followed close behind with a 6-3 record. The duo also posted a 6-3 doubles record throughout fall play. Malamou notched a 4-2 record after playing in only two tournaments this fall.
