BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Day one of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional saw three Lady Topper wins and only one loss. Emilia Granstrom and Andreanna Christopoulou won their first doubles match, but lost their second. Christopoulou won both of her singles matches.
The day started out with doubles qualifying play. Granstrom/Christopoulou first faced Salvo/Tavares of Austin Peay. They easily advanced to the next round after defeating the Lady Governor duo, 8-1. In second round, Granstrom and Christopoulou went up against Naito/Tari of UT Martin. It was a close match that saw a UT Martin victory by a score of 8-6. The loss eliminates the Lady Toppers from doubles play.
Christopoulou then switched gears to play in singles qualifying play. She first took on Ana Rajkovic of Miami (Ohio). Christopoulou lost the first set 4-6, but bounced back to win the next two, 6-4, 6-2. She advanced to the next round where she faced Allison Storie of UT-Chattanooga. Christopoulou came out on top by a score of 6-2, 6-1. The victory earned her a spot in the main draw bracket that will begin tomorrow afternoon.
Granstrom will play her first singles match tomorrow against Amandine Faouzi of Eastern Kentucky at noon CT. Christopoulou will take on Christina Di Lorenzo of Xavier also at noon CT tomorrow.
