BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Lady Topper tennis players Emilia Granstrom and Andreanna Christopoulou will take part in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tournament being played in Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend.
The Ohio Valley region includes most surrounding Division I schools in Kentucky, Tennesee, Indiana, and Ohio. The tournament will host teams from 24 schools over the weekend, including Louisville, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Indiana, and Purdue.
In singles, Granstrom will take on Amandine Faouzi of EKU on Saturday at noon CT in the main draw bracket. Faouzi is a senior and was named the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year. Christopoulou was placed in the qualifying bracket and will face Ana Rajkovic, a junior from Miami (Ohio). They will take to the court at noon CT on Friday. If Christopoulou advances, she will play again at 4:00 p.m. CT on Friday. In order to advance to the main draw, she must win both matches.
Granstrom and Christopoulou will team up in the doubles qualifying bracket to take on Ornella Di Salvo/Vanessa Tavares of Austin Peay. They will meet at 8:00 a.m. CT on Friday. The winners will advance to play again at 10:30 a.m. CT. If they win both matches, they will advance to the main draw bracket that will begin play on Saturday.
Granstrom holds a 6-3 record in fall play up to this point, including two wins in the $10,000 Amelia Island Tournament and three wins in the Elon Invitational. Christopoulou has gone for a 4-2 record through the fall season. Granstrom and Christopoulou have teamed up in every match this fall and have combined for five wins, including a flight title in the Elon Invitational.
