Bowling Green, Ky. – Both the WKU men's and women's tennis squads will begin the fall portion of the tennis season, beginning on Friday, September 9 at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. The opening tournament of the fall schedule will be a three-day event.
The Lady Toppers are scheduled to appear in three different tournaments through the month of September and October, including trips to Austin Peay and Arkansas State for weekend tournaments. The Ausitn Peay Tournament will take place the weekend of September 16, while the trip Jonesboro, Ark., will take place the weekend of October 7.
The Lady Toppers return five letterwinners from a 2011 team that went 13-7 overall. Sophomore Monta Reinfelde, who tied for the team lead in singles wins in her freshman campaign, returns to anchor the WKU attack from the No. 1 position. The WKU women also return Alex Crofford and McKinley Mason, who each finished with nine wins last season, along with Katrina Vucina, who finished third on the team with 11 singles wins, and Morgan Freeman, who tallied six victories.
The Hilltoppers are slated to travel along with the Lady Toppers to Arkansas State beginning on October 7, after competing in the tournament at Lindsey Wilson. The WKU men graduated only Currie Martin in 2011, returning a slew of players that helped guide the Hilltoppers to six wins in 2011. Robert Whitmer and Lance Freeman, who tied for the team lead in wins last season, both return, along with Arul Selvan, who spent extensive time at the No. 1 singles spot.
