BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU women's tennis team made quick work of Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, moving past the Panthers, 6-1. The win moves the Lady Toppers to 2-0 on the young season, after a 4-3 win over Union College in the season opener.
On Saturday, WKU relied heavily on the play of four true freshmen, as all four picked up wins in singles and doubles.
Freshman Monta Reinfelde, playing in her first singles match of the season, played at the top spot for the Lady Toppers, winning in straight sets over Jayden Morrison of Kentucky Wesleyan, 6-1, 6-1.
McKinley Mason and Alex Crofford, also freshmen, played from the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots, picking up wins in straight sets. Crofford improves to 2-0 in singles play this season, as well as a perfect mark in doubles play after tallying a doubles win with partner Carrie True.
Morgan Freeman, a freshman out of Corbin, Ky., also notched a win in doubles and singles play on Saturday, picking up an 8-5 win in singles, and an 8-5 win in doubles with teammate Kartina Vucina.
Vucina played from the No. 4 singles spot, shutting out Jamie Brown of Kentucky Wesleyan in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Vucina, a sophomore, along with senior Carrie True, were the only non-freshman to play on Saturday for the Lady Toppers. True took down Tatum McMahon of Kentucky Wesleyan, 8-5 from the No. 5 singles position.
WKU will have a quick turn-around, as the both the Lady Toppers and the Hilltoppers are in action on Sunday, February 6, with the women hosting Southern Indiana, and the men hosting Bellarmine.
