MURRAY, Ky. - The WKU men's tennis squad saw its three-match winning streak halted at the hands of Murray State Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-3 on the road. The Racers used a sweep in the doubles portion of the match to earn what would become the decisive point after both teams split in singles competition to end the day.
Despite the loss, both Thomas Krug and Lance Freeman extended their match winning streaks, with Krug winning his ninth match in a row and Freeman winning his eighth in a row. Krug now improves to an astounding 49-6 overall in his career at WKU, and is currently 9-1 in singles competition this season. Against Murray State, Krug defeated Ben Clos in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, while teammate Lance Freeman took out Jose Berardo in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Freeman also improves to 9-1 in singles competition this season.
The only other Hilltopper to win a singles match Tuesday was Craig Kirchgessner, playing from the No. 5 position. Kirchgessner outlasted Jadir Semensin in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to earn his third singles victory this year.
The Hilltoppers and the Lady Toppers will return to action this Saturday, March 27, as they host Lindsey Wilson.
