BOWLING GREEN, Ky. For the Western Kentucky University tennis program, the weekend was quite nice with both the men and women picking up much needed victories. The Hilltoppers (4-4, 0-0 SBC) downed the Bison 4-3 while the Lady Toppers (3-2, 0-0 SBC) also picked up the 4-3 victory.
During the men's match, Lipscomb started the match winning the doubles point as the Bison took two-of-three away from the Hilltoppers. Currie Martin and Priyank Gangadharan were the only pair to pick up a doubles victory over Lipscomb. The duo teamed at No. 2 to win 9-7 over James Murrell and Chad Pierron.
The Hilltoppers stormed back in singles winning four-of-six matches. Thomas Krug won at the top spot downing Joe McArdle 6-2, 6-2. Andy True picked up another win for WKU at No. 2 defeating Bruno Melibeu 6-1, 6-2. Gangadharan knocked off Murrel 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 and Arul Selvan held off Josh Cummings at No. 5, 6-0, 3-6, 7-6.
The Lady Toppers' match did not fare much different. Lipscomb took the doubles point to open the contest. The twins, Marlou and Margot Van Bussel were the only team to win in doubles taking down E. Keevil and O. Ellis 8-1 at No. 2.
Erin Fulkerson got things started in singles competition for WKU with a straight-set victory over D. Hansen at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Marlou Van Bussel defeated Keevil 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 while Jacomiey Feilzer took down C. Landry in three sets at No. 3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Carrie True sealed the match for the Lady Toppers with here straight-set win at No. 6 over S. Bowman 6-3, 6-0.
Both the Hilltoppers and Lady Toppers will travel to Alabama for matches during spring break starting Saturday.
