Bowling Green, Ky. The Western Kentucky University women's tennis team defeated Austin Peay 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Total Fitness Connection.
The Lady Toppers improve to 2-1 on the young season.
To start the match, WKU took the doubles point winning the final two doubles matches. Margot and Marlou Van Bussel knocked off Michelle Liew and D. Georgakopoulous at No. 2, 8-6, while Carrie True teamed with Jacomiey Feilzer at No. 3 to beat Brittany Hays and Alex Pyle 8-2.
The singles portion of the match did not fare so well for the Lady Governors either. WKU won four of the six singles matches with the only wins for APSU coming at the top two spots. Mariana Pagan held off Erin Fulkerson after the Lady Topper took the first set. Pagan won 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the top spot. Maria Djuran took Liew to three sets as well but eventually fell to the Lady Governor, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Marlou Van Bussel knocked off Yuki Nakamura 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Feilzer defeated Georgakopulous 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4. Margot Van Bussel downed Hays at No. 5, 6-2. 6-2 and True blanked Pyle, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Lady Toppers will be in action again on Feb. 21 against Belmont.
