Seven Lady Toppers competed today in the singles and doubles brackets. In Flight One Maria Blanco of Southern Illinois defeated Ieva Balcus 7-5, 6-3. In a close three setter, Beth Peyton of Evansville downed Ilze Rozentale 7-6, 2-6, 10-4 in Flight Two. In Flight Three of singles Dana Underdonk quickly put away Kimmy Anderson of Southeast Missouri State 6-4, 6-3. In Flight Four Brittney Waiz fell to Christina Scala of Valparaiso 6-2, 6-0. In Flight Five singles Caffey defeated Maggie Coffman of Southern Illinois 6-3, 6-1. In Flight Six, two Western players competed; Kell beat Miranda Petrea of Southeast Missouri State 7-5, 0-6, 10-6 and Kalie Ackerman of Southern Illinois had to battle, but beat Jillian Becher 3-6, 7-5, 10-8.
In doubles Flight One Alex Becka and Verena Baernwick of Morehead State got the better of Balcus and Rozentale 8-3. In Flight Two Zuzana Palovic and Zova Hunarmand of Southern Illinois took care of Underdonk and Waiz 8-1. In Flight Three Caffey and Kell outperformed Jamie Petty and Charley Kraft of Evansville 8-0.
Play will continue tomorrow (Sept. 25) at 8:00 a.m. (CDT) at the Carson Center with doubles to start first.
