BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Allison Nellis had a first-half goal and assist Friday to help lead Western Kentucky University to a 3-1 Sun Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Arkansas State at Indian Soccer Field.
The Lady Toppers (10-1, 2-0 Sun Belt) won their sixth consecutive match in picking up their first road win in league play. The Lady Indians dropped to 2-8, 0-3 in the SBC.
Nellis got Western on the board early, tallying an unassisted goal just over eight minutes into the match. She helped the Lady Toppers double their lead in the 33rd minute when she assisted on Christi Banas' third goal of the season, which would prove to be the match-winner. Nellis continues to lead WKU with nine goals, five assists and 23 points this year.
Kelly Frericks added an unassisted goal in the 70th minute to give the Lady Toppers a 3-0 advantage, but Rachael Reese scored with less than 13 minutes remaining to break up the shutout - Sheri Kiser picked up the assist on the play.
Amy Uhlman needed to make just two saves in recording her 10th win of the season. WKU outshot the Lady Indians, 11-6, without giving up a shot in the first half.
The Lady Toppers continue their two-match Sun Belt road trip Sunday, when Western takes on Arkansas-Little Rock at 1 p.m. (CDT).
