BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Soccer has wrapped up their 7v7 tournament and the annual team banquet.
WKU kicked off the spring by celebrating the 2025 season at the team banquet on Friday, February 27 in the Harbaugh Club at Houchens-Smith Stadium. Several individuals were recognized including team superlative winners and other award honorees.
Seven team superlatives were handed out. The team's Most Valuable Player was given to Georgia Liapis who was also named Offensive Player of the Year. Liapis was tabbed as the Conference USA Midfielder of the Year and was named First Team All-CUSA. She led the Hilltoppers with nine goals and 20 points, marking the seventh-most single season goals scored in program history.
Maddie Davis was named the Defensive Player of the Year after being named Second-Team All-CUSA for posting the second best save percentage in the league and securing five shutouts with four in CUSA play. Davis also earned the Lee Robertson Leadership Award. The Alumni Spirit Award was given to Camryn Davis, and Rylee Finol earned the Coach's Award. Most Improved Player was given out to Ansley Rice and Alyvia Walls was given the USC Award of Distinction.
Members of the All-CUSA Team were also honored at the banquet in Liapis, Davis, Abby Wiedermann, and Makenna Egan. Nine Hilltoppers earned perfect 4.0 GPAs in the fall of 2025 and six were named CSC Academic All-District in 2025.
The banquet concluded with a ring ceremony to commemorate WKU's 2025 Conference USA Regular Season Championship following an unblemished 6-0-2 mark in league play, including an undefeated record on the road.
"It was a great weekend for Hilltopper Soccer!", said head coach Jason Neidell. "We were able to celebrate the individual and team success of the 2025 season at our annual banquet. To end the evening with a surprise championship ring presentation created a very meaningful and authentic moment for our entire program to commemorate with their families."
On Saturday, the team hosted the 7v7 tournament at Houchens-Smith Stadium. The tournament field consisted of seven teams in Brescia (two teams), Trevecca Nazarene (two teams), Kentucky Wesleyan, and WKU (two teams).
Both WKU teams advanced to the final, ending in a 1-1 tie with the 'BIGÂ Red Flags' winning in a dramatic penalty kick shootout. The two squads went a combined 7-0-3 on the day, scoring a total of 39 goals and conceding just 12. Makenna Egan led with 11 goals and two assists. Transfers Cena Carlson and Sophia Lezizidis each scored four while Mya Jackson led the team with five assists. Rebecca Roth and Tyler Roth ended up as teammates and each assisted in one of their sister's two goals.
On the performance in the 7v7 tournament, Neidell said "We set a goal for our two teams to meet in the championship, and both teams found very different paths to make that happen – each with their own growth moments. To see all four of our new players be productive on the stat sheet in their first competitive action with the team was simply tremendous, with Mya Jackson leading the team in assists. The returners also had so many quality moments both in their performance and leadership. Makenna Egan was simply tremendous in front of goal, leading the team with 11 goals on the day. Goalkeeper Mia Riddick won tournament MVP for some late game heroics in the final. I am so proud of all our student-athletes for the work that they are putting in this spring, and the staff could not be more excited for our continued preparation for the Fall 2026."
WKU will kick-off the first of three spring exhibitions against Samford at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 at the WKU Soccer Complex.
