ABOUT THE TOPS
- The Hilltoppers' 5-0-2 record marks the first time since 2008 that WKU has gone unbeaten through the first seven games.
- Abby Wiedermann and Mia Riddick were named Conference USA Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Wiedermann earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after a standout defensive performance anchoring the Hilltoppers' back line. She played all 180 minutes across both matches last week while limiting both opponents to fewer than 10 shots. Riddick earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the second time this season after posting two more clean sheets against UIC and DePaul. She played all 180 minutes and recorded seven total saves, bringing her season totals to five shutouts and 24 saves.
- Most recently, WKU defeated UIC, 1-0, last Sunday afternoon in Chicago. Although both teams created opportunities, the match remained scoreless through a physical first half. After the break, the Tops ramped up the offensive pressure. In the 60th minute, WKU nearly broke through after UIC was issued a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity, but the free kick was saved by the Flames' goalkeeper. Freshman midfielder Tyler Roth finally broke through in the 87th minute, firing a shot into the upper right corner of the net off an assist from Georgia Liapis to give the Hilltoppers the lead. Goalkeeper Mia Riddick finished with five saves in the match.
- Between the posts, goalkeeper Mia Riddick has been a key part of the Hilltoppers' defensive success, recording 24 saves while allowing just one goal this season. Riddick currently leads CUSA in goals-against average (0.17), saves, and shutouts per game (.833), while ranking sixth nationally in GAA and fifth in save percentage (.960).
- As a team, the Hilltoppers rank among the nation's best defensively, sitting tied for fourth nationally in GAA (.143), save percentage (.960), and shutout percentage (.800).
- For the season, midfielder April McDonald leads the Hilltoppers with three goals. Her three goals are tied for fourth in Conference USA.
- Makenna Egan has scored two goals this season, both of which have been game-winners, tying her for second in CUSA.
