BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Junior defender Abby Wiedermann and redshirt senior goalkeeper Mia Riddick were named Conference USA Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Wiedermann earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Riddick was named Goalkeeper of the Week.
Wiedermann and Riddick guided the Hilltoppers (5-0-2) to two shutout wins last week. WKU posted two 1-0 victories over DePaul and UIC on the road. This marks the first time since 2008 that the Hilltoppers have gone unbeaten through their first seven games.
Wiedermann anchored the back line for the Hilltoppers in a standout defensive performance, playing all 180 minutes across both matches. From her defensive position, Wiedermann limited both opponents to fewer than 10 shots, helping the Hilltoppers secure both shutouts.
Riddick was a force between the posts this week, posting two more clean sheets to bring her season total to five shutouts. Across the two matches, she recorded seven saves, bringing her season total to 24. In CUSA, Riddick now ranks first in goals-against average, saves, and shutouts per game.
WKU continues the season with a single road match this week. The Hilltoppers will take on Lipscomb, Sunday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tennessee.
