Monroe, La. - The Western Kentucky men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Lousiana-Monroe on Saturday. The men won 131-110 while the women took a 130-106 decision.
Winning for the women were Megan Zerhusen in the 200 freestyle (1:56.75), Michelle Lynch in the one meter diving (248.85) and three meter diving (275.55), and the 400 freestyle relay team of Beth Carey, Char Janes, Kristi Kostelkik and Zerhusen.
Winning for the men were Dean Cheek in the 500 freestyle (4:40.60), Chuck DeLong in the one meter diving (228.00) and the three-meter (247.72) and David Tucker in the 50 freestyle (20.40) which tied the La.-Monroe Pool Record set in January 2000.
Both teams not stand at 8-0 on the season as they head to Ball State on Saturday, Nov. 18 for a showdown with the Cardinals.
"We didnt have a great deal of success today, but we were strong enough towards the end of the meet to pull out the victories," head coach Bill Powell said. "We are continuing to grow as a team as the season progresses."
