As a Senior (2012-13): Van Oost finished her collegiate career with a successful senior season, as she completed the season with eight top-five finishes. Three of those top-five times came at the Sun Belt Conference Championship, as WKU earned its ninth league title in program history. Van Oost finished fourth in the 400 IM (4:17.41) and fifth in the 100 back (56.60) and 200 back (1:58.60). She had one win on the season, taking first in the 100 back against Evansville (58.83). She also had a trio of third-place finishes, including the 100 back (59.70) against Delta State, 200 back (2:05.27) against Vanderbilt/Tulane and 100 back (57.55) at the Hilltopper Invite.
As a Junior (2011-12): Alex Van Oost followed up strong back-to-back seasons to open her Lady Toppers career with a junior season that featured setting the school record in the 200 backstroke, being named a CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Honorable Mention All-American for the second time and scoring in three events at the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Van Oost placed second in the 200 backstroke after posting a school-record and NCAA "B" cut time of 1:56.66 in the preliminaries of the event. She also placed sixth in the 400 individual medley and seventh in the 500 freestyle. Her time of 4:19.32 in the 400 IM represented an NCAA provisional qualifying time. During the season, Van Oost recorded 19 top-5 finishes including three individual wins. She swept the 100- and 200-backstroke against the University of Cumberlands with time of 58.42 and 2:05.38, respectively while placing first in the 200 back against Marshal and Fairmont State. In the meet against Kentucky and Vanderbilt, Van Oost recorded a pair of top-5 finishes and followed that up with a pair of top-3 finishes against Georgia Tech and Clemson.
As a Sophomore (2010-11): Van Oost had a strong sophomore season for the Lady Toppers, being named an Honorable Mention Mid-Major All-American at the end of the season. At the Sun Belt Conference Championships, Van Oost scored in three events, recording top-10 finishes in all her events. In the 400 IM, she finished runner-up in a school record time of 4:20.29. Van Oost placed fourth in the 200 backstroke and turned in an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the preliminaries of the event (1:57.74). Her third event was the 500 freestyle and she placed eighth. The sophomore tallied eight event wins on the season, including a win in the 200 backstroke against South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Van Oost also captured a pair of second-place finishes in the 1,000 freestyle and 200 backstroke against Georgia Tech and Florida Atlantic. She was named WKU's Most Improved and Most Dedicated.
As a Freshman (2009-10): In her first season at WKU, Van Oost proved to her teammates and coaches that she was a hardworker and was awarded the Most Dedicated honor at the end of year banquet. Van Oost posted 11 top-5 finishes on the yea, including four wins in the 200 back and the 400 IM. She scored in three events at the 2010 SBC Championships, including a third-place finish in the 400 IM with a season-best time of 4:22.17. Van Oost also placed fourth in the 200 back (1:59.78) and 12th in the 500 free, touching in at 5:01.23.
High School: Lettered her freshman year at Burlington Central High School ... named to the All-American Scholastic Team ... competed with the Academy Bullets club team.
Personal: Daughter of Bob and Anne Van Oost ... born April 17, 1991 ... majoring in math and education ... hopes to teach high school math and coach high school swimming after college.
