NEWARK, Del. - WKU Baseball (28-25; 13-15 CUSA) fell to Delaware (18-34; 6-22 CUSA) 7-3 on Thursday evening at Bob Hannah Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Austin Haller led off the game on Thursday with a base hit. Reid Howard grounded to the shortstop on a fielder's choice.
- Howard worked his way over to second on a wild pitch and the cleanup hitter Camden Ross doubled to left field to score Howard and give WKU the early lead.
- The Blue Hens then scratched three in the home half of the first.
- JP Acosta logged a one out single in the WKU second. Hayden Robbins was then hit by a pitch. Parker Coley flew one to the center fielder to move Acosta to third.
- The leadoff man, Haller, then placed one through the left side to score Acosta for a one run game.
- Delaware added a run in the home second and third to make it a 5-2 game.
- A two-run Blue Hen fifth made it a five-run game.
- In the sixth, Coley reached on an error and a walk to Haller moved Coley into scoring position.
- A groundball that resulted in an error allowed Coley to score and make it a 7-3 game.
NOTABLES
- WKU falls to 28-25 on the year and 13-15 in league play.
- Thursday marked the first ever meeting between WKU and Delaware on the baseball diamond.
- Gage Olsen started on the mound for WKU Thursday.
- Ka'olu Holt was the lone reliever for the Hilltoppers.
- Holt allowed five hits, three runs (two earned) and allowed just two walks compared to seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
- For Holt, his seven strikeouts and 6.0 innings in relief both mark his best as a Hilltopper.
- Austin Haller finished 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.
- Lane Arroyos also recorded two hits on Thursday. He finished 2-for-5.
- Camden Ross logged a 1-for-2 game with an RBI, a double, and a pair of walks.
