HOW IT HAPPENED
- Parker Coley recorded the first hit of the game with an infield single with two outs in the second.
- Liberty picked up their first hit of the day in the top of the third on an infield single.
- Coley started the Hilltopper fifth and recorded his second hit with a leadoff single through the right side.
- With two out in the sixth, Austin Haller grounded a single through the right side and on the first pitch of the at bat, lined a two run home run over the wall in left center to give WKU a 2-0 lead.Â
- In the seventh, Kyle Hayes knocked a leadoff double off of third base and a sacrifice bunt by Coley moved Hayes over to third.
- Cael Frost then poked a ball over the shortstop and into left field to score Hayes and extend the Hilltopper lead to three runs. A leadoff double in the eighth by Hayden Robbins set the stage for Austin Haller to drive him in and make it a 4-0 game. Haller stole second and on a passed ball followed by a wild pitch, Haller crossed the plate to give WKU a five run lead.
- The Flames loaded the bases in the ninth and walked in a run to make it a 5-1 game. A grand slam tied the game at five apiece. Liberty took the ultimate 6-5 lead on a walk later in the inning.
NOTABLES
- The Hilltoppers fall to 16-16 on the year and 4-8 in league play.
- Gavin Perry got the starting nod for WKU on Saturday.
- Perry tossed 8.0 innings and matched a career best nine strikeouts, allowing five hits and three runs (earned).
- Perry's eight innings of work marks a career long.
- Camden Ross led the offense, going 1-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, including a home run in the sixth.
- Ross now has three home runs in 2026.
- Austin Haller finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.
- Parker Coley had a two hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
- Hayden Robbins had a 2-for-4 day with a double and a run.
- Kyle Hayes finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run.
