ABOUT THE TOPS
- In his first appearance for WKU, sophomore Rafe Blankenship is on the card. The Scottsville, Kentucky native ended his freshman campaign with Lindsey Wilson College with a 73.9 stroke average. Blankenship also helped lead the Blue Raiders to a Mid-South Conference Championship.
- Senior Stephen Warren is set to lead the Tops in the tourney. The 2024 CUSA All-Academic Team member turned in four finishes in the top-10, including a fourth place finish at the Xavier Invitational.
- Nic Hofman is back on the card for WKU. Hofman competed in all 10 tournaments for the Red and White last year, logging six finishes in the top-25. Hofman's 73.3 stroke average through 29 rounds was good for third on the team.
- Tyngsboro, Massachusetts native Trevor Drew makes his first tournament appearance for the Tops. The freshman is coming off of a year where he qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Tournament. Drew also placed in the top-50 in the New England Amateur Championship.
- Sophomore Gage Doyle returns to the rotation for the Tops. Doyle had an impactful freshman season on The Hill, competing in six tournaments. Doyle logged two finishes in the top-25. The Texas native had his collegiate career best round during the third round of the Mobile Bay Collegiate after shooting a 3-under 69.
QUOTABLE
- Hilltopper Head Coach Austin King expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season: "I'm extremely excited to get things going this season! We've got a few new guys in the lineup this week along with some veterans who I think will work great together and be very competitive."
- He added, "Everyone is continuing to get better and is very focused on the day-to-day when it comes to that. Squire Creek will be a fantastic first stop for the season with a solid field where we will also see almost half of our conference as well."
ABOUT THE FIELD
- Being hosted by Louisiana Tech, the Hilltoppers will also see other CUSA teams, including Middle Tennessee and Jacksonville State.
- LSU will have two players competing as individuals. The LSU program finished fifth in the NCAA Regional where they then advanced to the national tournament where they finished 18th.
- This will be the sixth time the Hilltoppers have competed in this tournament, the first time since 2021. WKU's best finish in the tournament came in 2006 where they placed fifth.
