LEXINGTON, Ky. – WKU Track and Field has completed day two of the NCAA East Regionals. Ajla Basic competed for the Hilltoppers in the hammer throw.
Basic finished just outside the top-30, taking 31st, throwing 56.45 meters.
On the day's events, head coach Brent Chumbley said "Wasn't our strongest day but overall proud of the year that Ajla had and look forward to next season."
The junior competed in seven meets this outdoor season, finishing in the top-five in six. The native of Sarajevo, Bosnia claimed a first place finish at the Hilltopper Relays. She followed it up a week later with a new personal best, throwing 62.82 meters, at the Joe Walker Invitational. At the Conference USA Outdoor Championships, Basic claimed the bronze medal with a toss of 61.13 meters.
In three years with WKU, Basic has competed in the NCAA preliminary round every season. Basic joins Katie Isenbarger as the two active Hilltoppers to qualify for regionals three or more times. Basic is also the only hammer thrower to compete in consecutive regional rounds since Jenessa Jackson (2015-16).
The Hilltoppers will be back at it Saturday as Katie Isenbarger will compete in the high jump. The event is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. CT.
